چکیده
In two reading experiments, we examined the efficacy of commercial assistance application BeeLine Reader which colours letters digital texts in gradients. According to its developers, increases speed, improves comprehension, and makes more enjoyable. We tested these hypotheses for second- third-grade pupils (6–9 years old), assessing influence several layouts varied other features that are known impact processes beginning readers (line spacing, line length, text segmentation). comparison control with a standard black font, time advantages emerged second grade (not third grade) when they read long lines little inter-line spacing. However, second-grade processed were optimized their level (texts short sufficient spacing) displayed slower pace font than font. Furthermore, may hamper comprehension rated as difficult less convenient process conclusion, visual anchors offered by be useful some situations but can also impede readability texts. These findings emphasize claims made applications should formally if going introduced into educational settings. • speed layout. decreases an easy readers. Enhancing Social Software Readability for Multilingual Readers in the Enterprise
Blogs are an important platform for people to access and share information, particularly in corporate settings where users rely on these systems for their work. However, because a global enterprise is multilingual, not all employees can understand the shared information in these systems easily if the content is written in a user’s nonnative language. Based on requirements gathered from a pilot ...
متن کاملThe Effect of Book Design on Beginning Readers' Attention Allocation
Books for beginning readers typically intermix text and pictures in close proximity. The proximity of difficult-todecode text to pictures may induce competition between these sources of information. As a result, children may frequently shift gaze between text and pictures, which may degrade memory representations of the text and reduce comprehension. A mobile eye tracker was used to measure chi...
متن کاملGenerating Readable Texts for Readers with Low Basic Skills
Most NLG systems generate texts for readers with good reading ability, but SkillSum adapts its output for readers with poor literacy. Evaluation with lowskilled readers confirms that SkillSum’s knowledge-based microplanning choices enhance readability. We also discuss future readability improvements.
متن کاملCortical sequence of word perception in beginning readers.
Efficient analysis of written words in normal reading is likely to reflect use of neural circuits formed by experience during childhood rather than an innate process. We investigated the cortical sequence of word perception in first-graders (7-8 years old), with special emphasis on occipitotemporal cortex in which, in adults, letter-string-sensitive responses are detected at 150 ms after stimul...
متن کاملMATCHING READERS TO TEXTS The Strathclyde Complexity Measure
Corpus analysis has potential as a source of insight on language constituency. We describe a project whose objective is to employ such insights, drawn from statistical or frequency analyses, as a means of predicting the likely match between a readers’ reading comprehension level and one or more target texts. With this possibility, we provide a means of selecting reading materials that are suite...
